Toni's Night Out

Stone Temple Pilots: Road Trip Edition

May5

Anyone who knows me will tell you that I’m not the type who plans ahead for things. Much like Oprah… I listen to my inner voice and trust that things will fall into place. Because well, they always do.

stpphilv_0000_34 When I looked up the latest Stone Temple Pilots tour I noticed a show listed in a place called Upper Darby, Pennsylvania. Since I live in New Jersey, I was curious about how far away it could be.

I never heard of this town before nor did I know anything about the venue. I even mapped out the directions to see if it was a doable scenario. But I quickly realized it was too far out of the way and decided against it.

In that moment, I thought to myself, how nice it would have been to see them live again. But this time I’d like it to be in a smaller venue, up close, but without having to push through a crowd for once. Also, it would be great if I didn’t have to do too much driving. And YES, I did just equate myself to Oprah.
stpphilh_0007_8Later that week, I got a text message from my Stone Temple Pilots loving friend, Dan. We met a few years back when he sold me an STP ticket off of Craigslist and we’ve been buddies ever since. His friend had bailed on him. He had an extra ticket and asked if I wanted to go… Well, of course I did! But, I had so much going on that week between my best friends birthday celebration and my nieces christening plus feeling a little down, I had to tell him no. I said, “try to get someone else but if you can’t, try me again”. The next time he called to ask though, I was in bed with food poisoning. I had broken out in cold sweats, not sure if I was coming or going. I again told him no, because I was afraid to commit in case I was still sick and unable to drive.
It wasn’t until the very next day when I felt better and found out that it was a legitimate 2nd row ticket at a discounted rate and that Dan would be happy to pick me up and do the driving, that I finally agreed! It’s not like he couldn’t find anyone else to go with him, he just wanted to go with someone who would truly appreciate the stpphilh_0015_1
experience. Not to mention I’m a ton of fun.. like duhhhhhhhhhh! So a few days later we hit the road! Oh don’t worry, Dan is a nice guy and perfectly safe. For most bands I wouldn’t travel more than a 10 mile radius; but STP are special, so I make exceptions. Besides, we’ve done this once before. The last time I did the driving down to Camden. And as it turns out “Upper Darby, PA” is just outside the city limits of Philadelphia… it wasn’t too far after all!A few hours later when we arrived at our destination the streets were packed and busy, but like magic… bam, we landed the sweetest parking spot directly across the street from the venue. I’m so glad I manifested that! What? Did you think it was a coincidence? Pisssh, no such thing, I say! Me and Dan were stoked! We knew it would be a great night. 🙂 The show was at The Tower Theater, an adorably quaint venue, that was built in the late 1920’s and was used for vaudeville acts & showing movies in it’s day. It had just the right level of intimacy I was looking for. And when we finally got situated and saw where we were sitting… forget it. I was downright giddy and the show hadn’t even started yet. 🙂 As I looked around some more, I noticed MEN for as far as the eye could see… sure there were a few women scattered about but from where I was standing I only noticed maybe 2 or 3. We were 2nd row, stage right, in between Dean Deleo and Scott Weiland. There was  no barricade or pit between us and the stage. And with all this testosterone floating around I was feeling flirty. Talk about up close and personal! How you boys doin? 😉

When they finally came out, their guns were blazin’ full speed ahead! Opening the show with Crackermanthis time around, megaphone in hand. They got the crowd pumped right off the bat… all while Dean made sweet sweet love to his guitar! Oh, be still my beating heart. No matter how many times I see this band play live, this never gets old. Swoon. Watch and see for yourselves:

CRACKERMAN
BIG EMPTY
The boys were on their game tonight, for sure! They went on to play more great hits, only mixing up the setlist slightly but with the perfect balance of old and new such as: Wicked Garden, Vasoline, Heaven and Hot Rods, Between the Lines, Hickory Dichotomy, Still Remains and then there was Big Empty… I always wanted to be the siren in a music video. And just look at me now! I feel so pretty. 😉
SILVERGUN SUPERMAN
SEX TYPE THING / TRIPPIN
They went on to play: Dancing Days (Led Zeppelin cover), Silvergun Superman, Plush, Interstate Love Song, Huckleberry Crumble, Down, Sex Type Thing with an Encore of: Dead & Bloated & Trippin’ on a Hole in a Paper Heart.
Dean Deleo melting someone's face off. Still feeling flirty, I felt like the only girl in the room.. umm wait… I practically was the only girl in the room! I hope a fight doesn’t break out over me. At one point, Dan swore that Dean said “Toni” and pointed at me from the stage… honestly I didn’t hear it, so I can’t be sure, but who am I to call Dan a liar? That would be rude. OMG, Dean, how sweet, you didn’t have to melt that guys face off just to impress me!Wow, what a show!

But seriously, the night couldn’t have been more perfect. Everything I asked for in my head earlier that month came to fruition exactly as I requested it. A new STP show… check. Up close without any stress… check. Easy breezy no hassle commute… check. C’mon, it’s just a rock show, I didn’t meditate or pray for it, that would be frivolous of me. But without even realizing it, what I did do was speak my small desire into the universe,  and after rejecting it twice, things fell into place flawlessly to bring me precisely what I must’ve needed. But what’s the point, you ask? Well, for me, it’s just another little confirmation that anything you want in life, be it big or small, is possible. And again… much like Oprah, I have bigger fish to fry, ya know… like resolving that pesky Israeli-Palestinian conflict,  closing that gaping hole in our ozone layer and finding a cure for cancer, to name a few… My point is, think big people! Dream big.. and oh yeah.. definitely go see Stone Temple Pilots this summer! If you are a single gal this is where you wanna be!
I hope you loved my night out as much as I did. Until next time. xoxo Toni
